Sips of Gold of an Afternoon at Bacha Coffee ION Orchard

I have always believed that coffee is more than just a quick jolt of caffeine to get through the day. It is a ritual, a quiet moment to anchor yourself before the world rushes in again. My journey to Bacha Coffee at ION Orchard, located in the heart of Singapore, began on a rainy Tuesday afternoon around 2pm, hoping to find a brief escape from the gray weather outside.

Even on a weekday, the wait was longer than I expected. I stood in line for about 45 minutes before a table finally opened up. The moment you step past the velvet ropes, the sheer opulence of the place, inspired by the spectacular Dar el Bacha palace in Marrakech, wraps around you. Every surface gleams with gold accents, polished silverware, and intricate Moroccan-inspired geometric patterns, reflecting the brand’s rich heritage.

The dining space is stunning, though a little tight. The tables are placed quite close together to maximize the boutique layout. The AC was also quite strong—I definitely needed my jacket once I sat down. Still, the warm, amber lighting and the intoxicating aroma of freshly hand roasted beans made the cramped quarters feel somewhat cozy.

Bacha Coffee Begins: The Coffee Selection and Elegant Service

Close-up table-level shot of a traditional Bacha Coffee service with a gold coffee pot, espresso cups, and a bowl of whipped cream served on a marble café table.

Bacha Coffee offers an overwhelming menu featuring over 200 varieties of 100% Arabica beans from around the world, showcasing a remarkable variety of fine coffees and flavoured coffees that cater to every palate. Thankfully, the staff in their crisp white jackets provided elegant service, guiding coffee lovers through the bespoke grinds and traditional preparation methods that ensure every cup is a delight.

I asked for something with deep, fruity notes, and my server gently recommended the Black Amarena Coffee ($11). When the coffee arrived, it felt like a theatrical performance. Served in a large, elegant gooseneck pot that easily holds about three to four cups, it came with a small silver bowl piled high with vanilla bean-speckled Chantilly cream. The first cup, enjoyed black, was incredibly smooth, carrying a subtle, dark cherry fragrance that lingered on the palate. Adding a spoonful of raw sugar and a dollop of the cream transformed the second cup into a rich, velvety dessert.

Bacha Coffee Offers: Pastries and Flavours to Enjoy

Of course, you cannot visit Bacha Coffee without trying their famous pastries. I chose the Pistachio Croissant ($8) and the Raspberry Cinnamon Croissant ($8).

The Pistachio Croissant lived up to the hype—its shatteringly crisp exterior gave way to a generous, creamy, nutty filling that was rich without feeling heavy. The Raspberry Cinnamon Croissant offered a beautiful contrast, with sharp, slightly tangy fruit notes cutting through buttery layers, finished with a warm cinnamon spice.

Experience and Pricing at Bacha Coffee ION Orchard

While the food and ambiance were lovely, the experience is not without its flaws. The space is busy, and the service can feel a bit rushed once your food is delivered. Our server was knowledgeable and polite but clearly under pressure to turn tables quickly. If you are looking for a place to linger for hours with a laptop, this is not it.

Pricing is steep for a casual afternoon tea. My bill was around $32 for one pot of coffee and two pastries after taxes. You are undeniably paying a premium for the beautiful room, fine china, and the sheer aesthetic of the brand.

Making the Most of Your Visit to Bacha Coffee ION Orchard

If you plan to visit, I highly recommend asking for a corner table deeper inside the café. It is noticeably quieter away from the main entrance, allowing you to truly enjoy your company. Also, avoid dinner hours or weekends unless prepared for long waits.

Bacha Coffee is not your everyday neighborhood café. It is a curated, luxurious experience designed for catching up with friends or celebrating small victories. The wait times can be long, and the portions lean small, but the ritual of pouring that perfect cup of coffee from a golden pot makes it worth the journey.

For those travelling or looking to purchase, Bacha Coffee also offers an exclusive shop experience at ION Orchard, where customers can buy their favourite beans and blends, ensuring they can enjoy the quality and heritage of Bacha Coffee in their own homes.
